GI registered product ‘Oita Kabosu’
The Oita Kabosu was registered onto the geographical indications (GI) protection system on May 26, 2017. The GI protection system is used for the registration and protection of products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.
Oita Kabosu’s Defining Characteristics
Beginning from the first saplings planted in Usuki during the Edo Period, production for the Oita Kabosu became regionalized around the mid-1960s, and the fruit is currently sold as a formally established product.
